Kentucky Legislators Visit Mayfield-Graves Long Term Recovery Group for Disaster Recovery Roundtable

Mayfield, KY — On Monday, June 16, 2025, key members of the Kentucky House of Representatives gathered for a meaningful session at the Mayfield Graves County Long Term Recovery Group (MGC LTRG) to discuss the ongoing work of disaster recovery across western Kentucky.

The delegation included Majority Floor Leader Steven Rudy (District 1), Representatives Kim Holloway (District 2), Randy Bridges (District 3), Mary Beth Imes (District 5), and Chris Freeland (District 6). Representative Freeland also serves as Co-Chair of the Disaster Prevention and Resiliency Task Force, a legislative body tasked with examining and recommending future disaster preparedness and recovery policy.

The roundtable covered a wide spectrum of topics, including best practices in long-term recovery and the critical role of partnerships between nonprofit organizations and government agencies. Emphasis was placed on strengthening collaboration between all levels of government and regional organizations throughout the entire disaster management cycle, from preparedness and response to recovery and mitigation.

“Our recovery journey has shown that the most meaningful progress happens when nonprofit and government partners sit at the same table,” said Amy Chicoine, Executive Director of the MGC LTRG. “I’m grateful these leaders took the time to engage in honest, solutions-focused dialogue that will shape stronger communities across Kentucky.”

Formed in the wake of the devastating EF-4 tornado that struck western Kentucky in December 2021, the MGC LTRG is a nonpartisan 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to guiding survivors through their recovery journey. In addition to the 2021 tornado, the organization has served survivors of three additional non-declared disasters since its founding.
